How We Help Schools & Youth Organizations

It is essential for schools & youth programs to have mental health and suicide prevention education for staff, coaches, and students. We know too well how grave the consequences can be if those who work closely with children are not properly prepared. As an organization comprised of parents and educators, we believe it is crucial to aid schools by equipping faculty members and students with the necessary tools and knowledge to address and support mental health concerns effectively.

By prioritizing the mental health of all students, we can foster a compassionate and resilient community that will undoubtedly contribute to their academic success and personal growth. We are proud to offer several different options for schools and youth programs and share them below. We encourage you to contact us if you would like additional information or to schedule a speaker.

Why Gabriel’s Light Programs are Vital

  • Reduce the Stigma - By fostering a safe and open environment through mental health programs, we can reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, encouraging students to seek help without fear of judgment or isolation.

  • Suicide Prevention - Our mental health programs can provide essential peer-to-peer skills to identify warning signs of suicide risk, enabling students to intervene and connect their peers with appropriate resources for immediate assistance.

  • Emotional Resilience - Equipping students with coping mechanisms, stress management techniques, and strategies for building emotional resilience will enable them to navigate challenges more effectively, promoting overall well-being and academic success.

  • Early Identification - Educating students and faculty members on recognizing signs of distress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health struggles will enable them to intervene promptly and provide appropriate support to struggling peers and students.

  • Community Support - By involving the entire school community, including teachers and students, in our mental health programs, we can create a united front against mental health issues, establishing a supportive network for students at school.

Mental Health First Aid Training - MHFA for Adults & tMHFA for Teens

Our certified trainers teach how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance abuse challenges. We offer training for teens ages 15-18 and adults.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an evidence-based training program administered by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. There is a program for adults (MHFA) and another for teens (tMHFA).

The training gives you the skills to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use challenge or experiencing a crisis. More than 2.6 million people across the United States have been trained in MHFA by a dedicated base of more than 15,000 Instructors.

Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge or crisis. It takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health or substance use by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential issue.
